Tuatahi First Fibre continues to reduce carbon emissions and drive sustainability
We are proud to have completed our second annual audit as part of the Toitū Envirocare Carbonreduce certification programme.
We received our initial certification last year, and the results of our first review reflect our ongoing commitment to sustainability and reducing our carbon footprint.
Over the past year, Tuatahi has achieved significant progress:
- 323 tonnes CO2-e reduced: we have cut overall emissions by 12% year on year, a total reduction of 323 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2-e).
- 40% green fleet: we have doubled the number of electric and hybrid vehicles in our fleet, adding five new vehicles. Now, 40% of our fleet is classified as green, with a continued focus on transitioning the remaining vehicles as replacements are due.
- Sustained progress towards net zero: we remain committed to reducing our Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 75% by 2030 and achieving net-zero by 2040. For Scope 3 emissions, the goal is to achieve a 25% reduction by 2030, with net-zero targeted by 2050.
Since 2020, we have managed to consistently measure our greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with ISO 14064-1:2018, following best practices and stringent reporting standards. This process includes monitoring emissions across multiple categories, such as operational activities, purchased energy, and indirect impacts from our value chain, including business travel and waste management.
“Our annual audit results confirm that our sustainability initiatives are delivering tangible results. We are making strides towards our long-term emissions reduction targets, while improving the environmental footprint of our operations,” says Sustainability Lead Zac Parton.
“Our efforts are not only about achieving compliance but about making a real difference in our communities both for our current society as well as for future generations.”
The independent audit and verification, conducted by Toitū Envirocare, underscores the accuracy of Tuatahi’s emissions tracking and the effectiveness of our reduction strategies. This annual review also reflects our approach and commitment to continuous improvement.
